A Painter’s Process (part 1)

This is my process of painting making…I kept a photo record pretty well at first (when I was planning) but not so well later on when I just got lost in the work. I work with the actual setup and a view finder for quite a while before working with any 2d images. The images below are photos that I draw onto and play with to work out the formal rhythm and reversals (you can open up a larger image).

I adjust and change the objects in the setup and experiment on top of the photographic image at first…so my paint won’t get too thick before I am done, I don’t like too much paint on my canvas.

The parallel line jig was made by John, my better half and jig inventor extraordinaire. It helps me keep linear connections without getting pulled out of parallel and lost in space.

I am pretty happy with the drawing here, although things will still change…it feels pretty good.

To be continued…….
